Gaining deep understanding about the developmental stages of children is critical for teachers and parents. Children are not short adults. Kids have major differences in cognition, emotions, physical growth, and social skills. In all of these areas, a child who is eight-years-old will differ greatly from a child who is ten-years-old.
As principal, I work to reach all of our students at appropriate developmental levels. And, that brings us to puppets. We have daily morning video announcements and a portion of the announcements involves puppets. I talk to the students each morning on the large projection boards in the classrooms. Puppets also talk with the students during the announcements because puppets are developmental appropriate. Students listen to me, the principal, and most students pay even more attention to the puppets on announcements.
The 2012-13 school year is our ninth year to use television live announcements with puppets. Each puppets has a unique personality, special interests, and school role. Our first puppet, back in 2003, was Clark Frog and Clark is still on TV today.
Clark loves Fridays because in Clark's words, "Friday means we have worked hard at learning for a week." He eats mosquitoes and flies for breakfast. Clark lives in the swamp with his family. He doesn't drink water from the swamp but he does drink water from the pond. Clark always thinks Dr. Losey is "bashfully beautiful". Clark is small for his age but he has a big heart. His birthday is March 21.
The words for his Friday song are;
It's Friday, it's Friday a very good day, a very good day.
It's Friday, it's Friday a very good day, a very good day-yeah.
Our morning video announcements are available for you to watch live at 8 AM or at anytime as a recorded presentation. You can watch by using this Internet link
